As part of the SFB 1601 Student Council activities, we are glad to announce the ‘SFB Student Seminars ’. This is planned for PhD students to practice presentation skills in a friendly environment. As it is also mandatory for all SFB students to give one talk annually, we hope this event will be fruitful for all students.
The upcoming one-day program for these seminars is planned to be held at PH1, University of Cologne or AIfA (University of Bonn). We cordially encourage and invite all the PhD students to participate and present their talks. More information on the decorum of the program and participation is provided below:
All PhD students (SFB, BCGS, and IMPRS) from Cologne and Bonn are invited to present a talk. These also include new PhD students who are “officially” yet to register as SFB 1601 members during the upcoming SFB meetings4.
Topic of the presentation can be related to the doctoral research of the student; however, we do not strictly restrict it to this. For example, new PhD students are also motivated to present their Master’s Thesis work or any other research topic that deem fits to the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Each student will be given 15+5 minutes for the presentation, including the Q&A portion.
These presentations will be attended “only” by the PhD students. We hope this will help the students to practice their presentation skills with beneficial inputs from their own peers-cum-colleagues in a closed/friendly set-up.
We will also be having coffee and lunch breaks in between for further open discussions among students, followed by a socializing event in the evening.
We encourage everyone to spread a word about this event. Please note that we do not plan to stream this online in order to make it more efficient for improving presentation and interaction skills of students. Therefore, we request all the students to mark their calendars accordingly, if they want to participate in this event.
