Diversity Board

We consider equal and fair opportunities for all scientists and members in the collaboration, regardless of their gender and individual identities, to be extremely important. The role of the CRC1601 diversity board is to work on gender and diversity issues, as well as any matters of inequality and/or harassment at the workplace. We would like to reduce any existing systematic disadvantages when possible in the frame of CRC1601, and to establish a culture in which every member of the CRC1601 feels respected, valued and supported.

To achieve these goals, we mainly work on the following points;

(i) raising awareness and monitoring of diversity issues within the CRC

Effective measures for raising awareness have to be adapted to currently (potentially) existing issues within the CRC and mindsets of the CRC members. These should be monitored by close communication with all CRC members. We endeavor to have a representative from each institution in the diversity board to achieve it.

(ii) implementation of CRC specific gender and diversity measures

The diversity board discusses their own ideas or proposed measures within the CRC that promotes equality and diversity. Measures can be without costs, or using the standard allowance for gender equality measures, in consultation with the CRC executive board. Examples are proposing family-friendly measures, organizing events such as career promotion workshops, networking events, or workshops against bias and discrimination. We will also advise equality and diversity measures in events organized by the CRC.

(iii) distribution of information on gender and diversity measures

This includes measures at the participating institutions, but also various offers from the DFG. General information and links are provided on the CRC website and updated as necessary by diversity board members. And time-sensitive information will be advertised using the CRC mailing list.

(iv) to serve as focal (collecting) point for diversity as well as other inequality issues and matters of harassment at work

This includes anonymous dropbox and open discussion forums that the diversity board organizes.

(v) networking and working closely together with official bodies and representatives for gender and diversity issues
